"CAN YOU FEEL THE RUSH?"

by robbmorgan 5. March 2009 08:38

The title sounds like something you would hear at a sporting event or a heavy metal concert. How about a Professional Wrestling match? One that has all the hype and millions of dollars in advertisement to back it up.

Let's see if I can set the stage for you:

The lights dim.

Smoke is released from all corners of the arena.

Riffs from a guitar electrify the air as the crowd erupts in total mayhem.

A silhouette appears just off the ramp that leads up to center stage.

The announcer starts the introduction with a low-rumbling voice...

"Right about now... now... now... You are about to be impressed by the words of... RUSH... LIMBAUGH!"

Let's face it, that is exactly what he is - an entertainer. A 350+ pound celebrity that hails from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Whether you like him or not he gets paid to entertain. And he's quite good actually. Some of the most side-splitting laughs that I have ever experienced happened while listening to him ramble on about some political topic without any intellectual substance. It's great - seriously! But is he truly the "new" face of the Republican Party?

The Democrats will be facing some rough times over the next four years. And as we all know (but hope that we're wrong), those rough times may very well bleed into the 2012 and 2016 elections. So getting a head start isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The Republican Party is struggling right now to find themselves. Knowing this, the Democrats must take full advantage of the situation and try to position themselves for that next election. President Obama, whether he does everything right or not, is going to be blamed for our economy and will be remembered as the President who was on duty during one of the worst times in our country's history. With Limbaugh rant'in and rave'in making a complete ass of himself (along with the help of the media of course), it hurts the GOP to have him tagged as the new face of the party.

So where does all this lead?

Well for the Democrats it buys them some time. With enough effort and media exposure they can use this to distract the American people from the real issues - the economy, health care, the unemployment crisis - just to name a few.

For the Republicans, maybe this sort of negative press is what it will take to wake them up. Honestly, could you really see a professional wrestler holding any sort of political office?

Oh yea! Sorry about that Minnesota.
